South African Food Photographer selected as finalist in the 2019 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year


We are delighted to share with you that the image below, shot by award-winning Food photographer, Hein van Tonder, was selected as a finalist in the 2019 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year.

It was awarded “Highly Commended” in the category “Bringing Home the Harvest” at the awards ceremony held in London on 30 April 2019. It was the only finalist image from a South African photographer. The image was shot at the historic Old Delhi spice market depicts a worker having a nap on bags of pungent chillies.


2019 was the 4th year that Hein’s work has been selected for the finals of the competition and this year saw a further 3 images selected for the shortlist stage of the competition. 2 images shot for Katelyn William’s best-selling book “Chocolate” and an image shot for Caro de Waal’s immersive installation at the 2018 Venice Food Design Week.


The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year is the world’s most important food photography competition and this year’s competition saw more than 9000 entries from 77 countries. The finalist gallery with some incredible work from all over the world can be viewed here:
