Woodstock, Cape Town – 30 June 2017 – Gangstar Enterprises, in partnership with Nikon in South Africa, is proud to be presenting a photo exhibition showcasing the visual stories of men that were once part of the dark world of gangsterism in Cape Town, but now symbolise hope in their communities.
The “From Gang to Star” photo exhibition will be featured at The Field Office in Salisbury Street, Woodstock, from 30 June – 30 July 2017, after which the artwork will be featured in various other exhibition spaces across South Africa.
The exhibition is an initiative of The Message Trust South Africa, an organisation that works alongside juveniles in prison guiding them through character development, spiritual growth and the training of business skills. As a result, these young people are provided with business and employment opportunities once they are released. The Message is focused on offering a holistic solution which also includes school life skill programmes, mentoring youth in the arts, as well as community outreaches into some of the neediest areas in Cape Town.
At the heart of Nikon, Nikon photographic equipment has a 100 year heritage of providing a platform for capturing memories and sharing people’s stories through its precision products. As a result, Nikon in South Africa has partnered with The Message through providing Nikon photographic equipment for the project and will be providing photography mentoring to Gangstars involved in the programme.
